BioMedical Profile

Holistic care should be part of every pet's life. Caring pet owners understand the benefits of using natural approaches in maintaining or improving their pet's health. Yet, we hear from many of you who struggle to improve your pet's flaky skin or dry coat, chronic low-grade ear infection or eye discharge, excess or underweight condition, or general vitality even after diligently administering home care interventions and supplements found online, learned through friends, or purchased at natural pet stores. This is because no one supplement, no matter how popular, is guaranteed to work for every animal without first understanding the specific metabolic imbalances unique to the pet. Maximizing your pet's health must start at the right place-inside!

Dr. Kruesi developed our BioMedical Profile® system (BMP) to improve outcomes for critically ill, aging pets and has since extended its benefits to ensure that young, healthy animals maintain optimum health.

The BMP system interprets routine diagnostic tests based on organ function relationships to reveal:

  1. test results that deviate from the median value
  2. sub-clinical nutritional deficiencies
  3. organs that are under stress or disease
  4. nutritional therapies that address these imbalances, administered for a specified time period.
The principal tests Dr. Kruesi requires are:
  • comprehensive chemistry profile ("SuperChem" profile, including Magnesium)
  • complete blood count (CBC)
  • thyroid profile (typically T3, T4, freeT4, though Dr. Kruesi may recommend otherwise after physical exam or reviewing the medical record)
  • urinalysis through an independent lab
  • Dr. Kruesi may recommend hair, allergy, comprehensive stool and/or additional blood or urine tests to confirm a diagnosis.

The results of these tests are used to interpret the individual's metabolic, hormonal, and nutritional balance.

The multi-page BioMedical Profile® report includes copies of the blood and urine test results, the doctor's score card interpretation of the nutrient, hormonal, and metabolic imbalances, summary tables of all blood tests provided to expose trends over time, and the customized treatment plan list of specific dietary supplement and herb formulas, and/or homeopathic remedies. It also notes how long the nutritional plan should be administered before repeating blood work for a follow-up BMP to evaluate progress achieved and remaining treatment goals.

Dr. Kruesi recommends starting the supplement program right away but transition into the program gradually so as not to trigger digestive upset. Cold River Veterinary Center carries most of the formulas that he recommends as a convenience to our clients. We offer Priority Mail and FedEx shipping options.

Further consultations or office visits can be scheduled to discuss findings with the client and their veterinarian. If you are a long-distance client, we recommend scheduling a phone consultation with Dr. Kruesi to discuss other supportive home-care options, e.g. diet options and education regarding vaccination and pesticide protocols. In conjunction with good owner compliance, our nutritional programs typically yield improvements in most if not all of the imbalances identified in the initial BMP in as little as 6 weeks.

The beauty of the BioMedical Profile® is the consistent way that it interprets a broad range of blood tests and guides the client and clinician towards proper nutritional therapy. In order to achieve normal physiologic function, one has to correct all the imbalances simultaneously. A good holistic practitioner will consider all therapeutic modalities that may help the patient.
