Dietary Supplements

Cold River Veterinary Center maintains a large pharmacy of nutritional supplements, medicinal herbs, glandulars, homeopathic remedies and injectables, frozen extracts and some small animal medications and vaccines. Our inventory evolves as Dr. Kruesi tries new formulas and products, seeking maximum effectiveness as measured on follow-up BioMedical Profiles.

Supplements listed in a BioMedical Profile treatment plan, hair analysis or comprehensive stool analysis can be ordered by telephone and shipped from our pharmacy or picked up at our clinic. We ship Priority Mail and FedEx.

Why use vitamins?
There are no conventional medicines that exert the same effect on the body as natural vitamins. The same statement holds true for amino acids, fatty acids, minerals and other dietary essentials. Nutritional supplements such as vitamins and medicinal plants complement the commercial pharmacopoeia of antibiotic drugs, antihistamines, and glucocorticoids. In general:

  • vitamins act slowly, drugs act rapidly;
  • vitamins are food, drugs are chemicals;
  • vitamins have broad effects, drugs have a narrow target;
  • vitamins have few if any, harmful side effects;
  • vitamins promote healing, and help to restore balance.

Examples of natural remedies Dr. Kruesi may recommend for his patients:

BHI composite remedies are based on common symptoms such as "cough" or "diarrhea". The tablets are dissolved in distilled water and administered to cats and dogs orally with an eye dropper or syringe.

Traumeel is an injectable formula for pain, blunt trauma, and repetitive use injuries.

Bach Flower Rescue Remedy. We love the gentle but effective way it reduces anxiety in some cats recovering from short-term injectable anesthesia. We occasionally see cats who are having a rough recovery from injectable dissociative agents such as Ketamine. Rescue Remedy calms them down with no adverse effects.

Topical treatments include aloe vera gel for moist dermatitis, and natural anti-inflammatory products for muscle and connective tissue injury.

Vitamin-amended IV fluids administered subcutaneously for cats and dogs
Therapeutic doses of vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional factors can be administered subcutaneously to patients with advanced disease. We stock several formulations of injectable vitamins, macro and trace minerals in addition to homeopathic vials. The medical staff at CRVC have advanced many new concepts in nutritional therapy. Minerals such as magnesium sulfate, calcium gluconate, potassium chloride, and sodium bicarbonate are used to treat each patient's electrolyte imbalances.
